Silay is a small heritage city 30 minutes north of Bacolod, often called the Paris of Negros for its concentration of preserved 19th-century mansions. The town's sugar baron families built dozens of grand homes during the height of Negros's sugar boom (1880s-1920s).

The most famous is Balay Negrense — the ancestral home of the Gaston family, now a museum. Manuel Severino Hofileña Heritage House is privately owned but welcomes visitors with a remarkable art collection.

Other notable houses include Bernardino-Jalandoni Museum (the 'Pink House') and Cinco de Noviembre Street (the historic street with multiple houses still inhabited).

Walking the historic district takes 2-3 hours. From Bacolod, take a van or bus from Ceres terminal (PHP 50, 30 minutes).
