La Trinidad, the small town adjacent to Baguio, sits in a valley known as the strawberry capital of the Philippines. Several farms allow visitors to pick their own berries — you pay by weight, take home a basket, and get to spend an hour in the strawberry fields.
The cool Cordillera climate (similar to mountain regions where strawberries naturally thrive) lets them grow year-round here, though peak season is November to May. Outside this window, fewer farms are open for picking.
Pricing is roughly PHP 350-500 per kilogram for picked-yourself berries. Most farms also sell ready-picked baskets, strawberry jam, strawberry wine, and strawberry-flavored ice cream and pastries.
The drive from Baguio is 15-20 minutes by jeepney. Combine with a visit to the Bell Church and the Strawberry Festival if you happen to be there in March-April. Watching kids try strawberries pulled fresh from the bush is the kind of small joy that justifies the half-day commitment.
