Mt. Batulao (811m) is the most popular day-hike from Manila — a 7-8 hour round-trip hike with rolling grass-covered ridges, dramatic peaks, and views of the surrounding Batangas countryside.
The standard route covers 11 peaks (mostly minor) along a ridge. The hike is rated 'Difficulty 3/9' — challenging for beginners but achievable. There are sections with rope-assisted descents and a few exposed scrambles, but no technical climbing required.
The trailhead is in Nasugbu, Batangas — 2 hours from Manila via STAR Tollway. Registration fee at the barangay is PHP 35; guides are mandatory and cost PHP 500-700 per group.
Best hiked in dry season (December-May). Most hikers start at dawn (5 AM trailhead arrival) to finish by early afternoon and avoid the heat.
