White Island is the postcard image of Camiguin — a 200-meter-long sandbar made entirely of crushed white coral and shells, with absolutely nothing on it. No trees, no buildings, no vendors. Just blinding white sand surrounded by 360 degrees of turquoise water, with Hibok-Hibok and Vulcan volcanoes rising in the background.
The sandbar is reached by a 10-minute boat ride from Agoho or Yumbing beach. Boats are PHP 550-700 for round trip with a 1-2 hour stay. The sandbar appears and disappears with the tide — at high tide it shrinks to almost nothing, at low tide it stretches the full 200 meters.
Bring serious sun protection. The combination of zero shade, white sand reflecting light, and turquoise water reflecting more light means you'll burn faster here than almost anywhere else in the Philippines. Reef-safe sunscreen is essential.
Going at sunrise (boats leave 5:30 AM) means you'll have the sandbar nearly to yourself and the temperature is bearable. By 9 AM the sun is brutal and tour groups arrive.
