Vayang Rolling Hills

Wind-swept hills overlooking the West Philippine Sea.

Vayang Rolling Hills

Vayang Rolling Hills, on the western side of Batan Island, face the West Philippine Sea — making them the sunset counterpart to Marlboro Hills' sunrise. The landscape is similar: undulating green slopes with cattle pasture, but here the cliffs face open water and feel even more dramatic.

The hills are within walking distance from Basco town (about 15 minutes by tricycle or 45 minutes on foot). The lack of trees means strong wind almost always blows in from the sea — locals say it's "windy enough to lean on."

The most photographed spot is the ridge overlooking the white Naidi Hills lighthouse and a tiny chapel further along. The contrast of green grass, blue water, and white buildings is striking.

Late afternoon is the time to come — light softens, the wind carries cooler air, and sunset over the West Philippine Sea is regularly spectacular. Bring a jacket; even in summer, Vayang can be cold when wet weather rolls in unexpectedly.
