How to Get to Siargao from Manila: A 2026 Guide
Every way to get from Manila to Siargao — flights, ferries, costs, and which option is best for your trip.
Getting to Siargao is easier than it used to be — but still trips up plenty of first-time visitors. Here’s every realistic route, with what each one costs and who it’s for.
The fastest option: direct flight Manila → Siargao
Three airlines fly direct: Cebu Pacific, Philippine Airlines (PAL), and AirAsia. Flight time is about 2 hours 30 minutes.
- Frequency: 4–8 daily flights combined across airlines
- Cost: PHP 2,500–7,000 one-way depending on how far ahead you book
- Airport: Sayak Airport (IAO), on the northern tip of Siargao
This is the right choice for 95% of travelers. Book through the airline directly to avoid third-party booking fees.
When direct flights get expensive
Around Christmas, Holy Week, and Cloud 9 surf contest week (late September), direct flights can hit PHP 10,000+. If your dates are flexible, book 6–8 weeks out.
The cheaper option: fly via Cebu
If direct flights are too expensive, fly Manila → Cebu, then Cebu → Siargao.
- Total cost: Often PHP 1,500–3,000 cheaper than direct
- Total time: 5–7 hours including layover
- Trade-off: Extra connection, more chance of delays
Worth it if direct fares spike. Not worth it if direct is under PHP 4,000.
The adventure option: ferry from Surigao
For backpackers or those who want a slower journey:
- Manila → Surigao City by flight (PHP 2,000–4,000, 2 hours), or
- Manila → Surigao City by bus + ferry (24+ hours, ~PHP 1,500 — only do this if you really want the experience)
- Surigao port → Dapa (Siargao) by fast ferry (~PHP 350, 2.5 hours) or roll-on roll-off (~PHP 250, 3.5 hours)
- Dapa → General Luna by van (~PHP 100, 45 minutes)
When this makes sense: if direct flights to Siargao are sold out or absurdly priced, or if you want to combine Siargao with a Surigao mainland visit.
When it doesn’t: if you’re short on time. The all-in journey saves maybe PHP 1,000 versus a direct flight but eats half a day.
From Sayak Airport to your hotel
Most travelers stay in General Luna (the surf town), which is about 45 minutes south of Sayak Airport.
- Hotel transfer (pre-booked): PHP 1,000–1,500 per van (split between travelers)
- Shared van at the airport: PHP 300 per person
- Habal-habal (motorbike taxi): PHP 400–600, only viable if you have light luggage
- Rent a motorbike at the airport: PHP 400–700 per day, ride yourself if you’re confident
Most hotels include or arrange transfers — ask when you book.
Where to stay once you arrive
The two main areas:
General Luna (GL): The main town. Walking distance to Cloud 9 surf break, most restaurants, surf schools, and nightlife. Best for first-timers.
Pacifico: Quieter, 1 hour north. Surf breaks here are mellower. Better for couples or longer stays.

A few practical tips
- Bring cash. Siargao has ATMs but they run out of money in peak season. Withdraw in Manila or Cebu before flying in.
- The airport is small. No fancy lounges, limited food. Arrive 90 minutes before departure, not 3 hours.
- Travel insurance matters here. Surfing and motorbike accidents are the most common claims. Don’t skip it.
- Pack reef-safe sunscreen. Regular sunscreen is sold in Siargao but at tourist prices.
When to book
For November to April (dry season — the most popular months), book flights 2–3 months ahead. For Cloud 9 surf season (August to November), surfers book even further out.
TL;DR
| Route | Time | Cost | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Direct flight | 2h 30m | PHP 2.5K–7K | Almost everyone |
| Via Cebu | 5–7h | PHP 2K–5K | When direct flights spike |
| Via Surigao ferry | 6h+ | PHP 2K–4K | Backpackers, slow travelers |
Direct flight is the answer for 95% of people. Book early, and don’t overthink it.
