Where to Stay in Siargao: Best Areas & Hotels (2026)
The best areas and hotels in Siargao — General Luna, Cloud 9, Malinao and Pacifico — with specific places to stay for surfers, couples, families and budget travellers.
Most people booking Siargao default to General Luna — and most of the time that’s the right call. But the island is bigger and more spread out than the Instagram reels suggest, and the difference between basing yourself in the buzz of General Luna versus the quiet of Pacifico is the difference between two completely different holidays. This guide breaks Siargao down by area, says who each one suits, and names specific places to stay for every budget.
The 60-second answer
- First time, want the action (surf lessons, cafés, nightlife)? General Luna.
- Serious surfer chasing dawn patrol? Cloud 9 / Catangnan, on the break’s doorstep.
- Want quiet but still near town? Malinao or Santa Fe, a short ride from GL.
- Want to disappear? Pacifico and the north — emptier waves, slower pace.
- Backpacking on a budget? Hostels in General Luna and around Cloud 9.
For 90% of first-timers, the honest answer is General Luna — it makes surfing, eating, island tours and meeting people effortless. The rest of this guide is for deciding where in, or whether to venture beyond it.

General Luna (the main hub)
General Luna — “GL” — sits on Siargao’s southeast coast and is the centre of everything: most of the island’s hotels, the best café and restaurant scene, the surf schools, the bars, the dive and tour operators. It’s about a 45-minute van ride (~25 km) from Sayak Airport, and it’s a 10-minute tricycle or scooter hop to the famous Cloud 9 break. If it’s your first trip, GL removes friction from every part of the day.
The trade-off is simply that it’s the busiest, most developed part of the island — if total quiet is what you’re after, you’ll want to sleep a little further out (see Malinao and Pacifico below). But for convenience, GL is unbeatable, which is exactly why most people stay here.
Stay in General Luna if you want surf lessons, a social scene, the most dining options, and the easiest access to tours and Cloud 9.
- Kajali Siargao — a well-regarded smarter resort neighbouring GL; a comfortable mid-to-upper pick.
- Daluyong Beach Resort — a polished beachfront resort in GL, a short walk from General Luna Beach.
- Sunset Bay Beach Villas — upscale villas in the GL/Cloud 9 area for couples wanting something special.
- Nay Palad Hideaway — the island’s flagship ultra-luxury, all-inclusive resort, for a serious splurge.
Cloud 9 / Catangnan
A few minutes north of GL, the area around the Cloud 9 boardwalk and neighbouring Catangnan puts you closest to the island’s legendary reef break. Staying here means you can be in the water for the dawn session without a tricycle ride, and you’re still close enough to GL for dinner and nightlife. It’s a touch calmer than the GL core, with a slightly more surf-focused crowd.
Stay near Cloud 9 if you’re here to surf and want the break (and that sunrise pier) on your doorstep.
- Kesa Cloud 9 Hotel & Resort — a straightforward mid-range option right in the Cloud 9 zone.
- Casavia Hostel — a popular budget pick near Cloud 9 for backpackers who want dawn-patrol access cheaply.
Malinao & Santa Fe (quiet, but close)
Just west and north of GL, Malinao and Santa Fe used to be sleepy local barangays and are now the sweet spot for travellers who want to be near the action but sleep somewhere peaceful. You’re a short scooter or tricycle ride from GL’s restaurants and Cloud 9’s waves, but you wake up to calm rather than crowds. Santa Fe in particular has a growing café scene.
Stay in Malinao or Santa Fe if you want GL within easy reach but a quieter, prettier base to come home to.
- Soultribe Beach Retreat — a relaxed, well-liked retreat-style stay in the Malinao area.
- Hostel Bajala Siargao — a sociable budget option that keeps you near GL without the GL price tag.
Pacifico & the north
Up the east coast, Pacifico is a long white-sand beach with its own quieter surf break and a barefoot, local feel — roughly a 45-minute to one-hour ride from GL. It’s for travellers who want emptier waves and a slower pace, and who are happy to rent a scooter, because you’ll want your own wheels this far out. Push further to the remote north (Burgos, Santa Monica) and you trade infrastructure for near-total seclusion and the cheapest rooms on the island.
Stay in Pacifico or the north if you want to escape the crowds, you’ve got your own transport, and quiet beats convenience.
- Bamboo Surf Beach — a laid-back Pacifico beach resort popular with the surf crowd.
- Trogon’s Perch — a more premium, design-minded stay for Pacifico’s quieter end.
Best budget & cheap stays in Siargao
Siargao still does budget well, especially around GL and Cloud 9. As a rough guide, hostel dorms run from around ₱500–1,200 a night and simple private rooms from roughly ₱1,500–2,500, climbing during the September–November surf-season peak. Book ahead for those months — the best-value places sell out weeks in advance.
- Casavia Hostel — sociable and near Cloud 9 (also listed above).
- LaFinca Hostel Siargao — a well-known backpacker spot for solo travellers.
- Katre Siargao — a budget hostel option up in the quieter Pacifico area.

Getting there and getting around
You’ll fly into Sayak Airport (near Del Carmen) and transfer ~45 minutes to General Luna — most hotels arrange a van pickup. For the full breakdown of flights and transfers, see our guide on how to get to Siargao. Once you’re on the island, the move is to rent a scooter (around ₱400–500/day): it’s how everyone gets between GL, Cloud 9 and the viewpoints, and it makes the north actually reachable. Not comfortable on two wheels? Tricycles cover GL to Cloud 9 cheaply, and you can hire a van with a driver for day trips. Planning a bigger route through the country? Frequently asked questions
What’s the best area to stay in Siargao? For most travellers, General Luna — it’s the island’s hub, with the most hotels, restaurants and surf schools, and it’s minutes from Cloud 9. Choose Cloud 9/Catangnan to be nearer the break, Malinao or Santa Fe for quiet close to town, or Pacifico for an uncrowded, local feel further north.
Is General Luna a good place to stay? Yes — it’s the most convenient base on the island and the easiest choice for first-timers, with everything from hostels to luxury resorts. The only downside is that it’s the busiest area, so light sleepers may prefer nearby Malinao.
When is the best time to visit Siargao? Surf season runs roughly September to November, with the biggest crowds and highest prices; March to October is generally drier. The quieter months are cheaper and more relaxed but can be wetter.
Do I need a scooter in Siargao? It’s the easiest way to get around, especially if you want to reach Cloud 9, the viewpoints and the north on your own schedule. If you’d rather not ride, base yourself in General Luna and use tricycles and hired vans.
