Bantayan Island
Quiet white-sand island in Cebu's north.
Bantayan Island, 4-5 hours north of Cebu City, is what Boracay was 30 years ago — a small island with powder-white sand, shallow turquoise water, and almost no development. Sugar Beach (also called Paradise Beach) is the headline draw.
Getting there requires a 3-hour bus or van to Hagnaya port, then a 1-hour ferry. The journey alone filters out day-trippers, so the island stays quiet. Most travelers stay 2-3 nights.
There's no nightlife, no chain hotels, no jet skis. Instead: small family-run resorts on the beach, a few good restaurants, and bicycles for rent to explore the island. It's a popular destination for Filipinos seeking a beach without the Boracay intensity.
The eastern side of the island (where most beaches are) is calmer; the western side faces open sea and can have stronger waves. Sta. Fe is the main town and where most resorts cluster.
