Dinagyang Festival
Iloilo's tribute to Santo Nino and the city's biggest festival.
Dinagyang is held every fourth weekend of January — Iloilo's massive religious-cultural festival honoring the Santo Niño (Child Jesus) with parades of 'tribes' wearing elaborate body paint and indigenous-inspired costumes.
The festival has been running since 1968. Multiple competing tribes train for months in choreography, costuming, and music. The competition culminates in the Ati Tribes Competition on the final Sunday.
Crowds reach 1-1.5 million visitors during the main weekend. The whole city participates: street markets, food festivals, beer plazas, concerts, and religious processions.
To visit: book hotels by November (everything sells out by December). The main parade route runs through Iloilo City center. Get there 2-3 hours early to claim a viewing spot.
