Cloud 9 Surf Break
One of the world's best right-hand reef breaks.
Cloud 9 is the wave that put Siargao on the global surf map. It's a powerful right-hand reef break that produces hollow, barreling waves with a fast takeoff and a long ride. International surf magazines have ranked it among the top 10 waves in the world.
The break is fronted by a wooden boardwalk and viewing tower — even non-surfers walk out to watch. During peak swell (August-November), professional surfers from around the world come for the Siargao International Surfing Cup, traditionally held in September.
For non-pros, Cloud 9 has two distinct sections. The peak is where the pros sit — fast, hollow, dangerous for beginners. The "inside" section, breaking closer to the boardwalk, is more forgiving and where intermediate surfers can paddle out.
Walk-on access from General Luna is easy — Cloud 9 is 10 minutes by motorbike. Most surf shops in town rent boards by the day (PHP 300-500) and arrange transport.
